NYCHA residents and staff, as well as surrounding community members, are welcome to attend and participate in upcoming Community Waste Dives, where you can take part in a ground litter clean-up, make arts and crafts, compete in a scavenger hunt and bingo games, all while learning about recycling, organics separation and waste reduction!
Food donations provided by Food Town and Levain
Activities are designed for all ages. All are welcome. Children under 14 should be accompanied by an adult.
What to wear: Event is outdoors. Please dress for the weather and wear close-toed, comfortable shoes.
Sewing experts will be on hand to add life to your clothes. Bring a worn, torn, ripped or broken item of clothing to the mending circle and we can try to help you repair it.
Tools will be provided for the litter clean-up and the mending circle. You can bring your own, but there's no need.
For the trash-nerds who want to dive in more, we'll be conducting a recycling waste audit as well, which means we'll be weighing and sorting materials collected in the recycling bins to determine contamination rates and other metrics. These data can be used to determine how effective education and outreach efforts like this one are.
Other important things to note about these events:
BYOB: Please bring your own reusable bottle. Beverages and snacks will be served with little or no packaging.
Weather Cancellation and Rain Dates: Check back here for any weather-related updates. In the event of bad weather, we will schedule rain dates - check back here for rain dates.
Registration: Whether you're coming on your own or bringing a group, let us know! You'll get a reminder and any special announcements about the event.
