The Manhattan Solid Waste Advisory Board presents Simon Paré-Poupart, author of the acclaimed Trash: A Garbage Man’s Story, in conversation with Robin Nagle, NYC Department of Sanitation anthropologist-in-residence and author of Picking Up.

Paré-Poupart started working as a garbageman to pay for school. Graduate degrees and “respectable” careers followed—but he ultimately returned to the truck, drawn by the physical intensity, camaraderie, honesty and freedom of the work.

Trash is his no-bullshit account of two decades in waste management and the people who keep our cities clean.
